- First, describe the ontology using a system based on Description Logics.
- Then, define the mapping information between its terms and the underlying data repositories, if any (click here to see how to add new data repositories). A repository catalog for the new ontology must be created. An Ontology Server and the corresponding wrappers to access the data repositories should be installed. Now the ontology can be used locally.
- To make it public to the rest of the Information System, register the ontology in the IRM specifying a unique name and the node in which it resides.
- To make it accessible from other ontologies, describe in the IRM all the semantic relationships of the term of teh new ontology with respect to any term of any pre-existing ontology. One relationship per term is enough; the rest will be deduced by the IRM.
