Location-based queries have attracted the attention of many research efforts, as they are the main basic block of location-based services. Within the framework of LOQOMOTION, we have studied how to extend the expressivity of this kind of queries.
Considering different granularities affects the processing of these queries at different levels: representation, expressivity, etc. We have studied the implications of using location granules in well-known location constraints: inside and NN-queries. They have proved to improve the query processing regarding efficiency of communications and expressiveness.
Our latest works are preliminary studies of how the addition of probabilistic and uncertainty issues also extends the queries processed by our system. Moreover, we are also studying the semantics behind the granules. We advocate the use of ontologies to further extend the expressivity of location queries.
